Theme - “Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future”

Every year on the occasion of international Wetland Day GLOBE Asia-Pacific Regional Coordination Office Hosts the Virtual Wetland Symposium which brought together students, teachers, scientists, and citizen scientists from across the region to celebrate these vital ecosystems and discuss their conservation and sustainable management.

Students engaged in research projects play a crucial role in educating the public about the detrimental effects of water pollution on local water bodies. They provide valuable insights and offer meaningful ways for the community to take action.

Through data collection and increased monitoring of their local water bodies, particularly wetlands, students contribute to keeping the community well-informed. This effort fosters a deeper understanding of the significance of local water bodies and encourages proactive measures for their preservation.

Objectives of the Virtual Students’ Research Symposium

The Asia-Pacific Science Festival (APSF) serves as a pivotal platform that amalgamates the extensive outreach of the GLOBE Program with active engagement from students and educators. It operates as a collaborative nucleus where educators, scientists, and experts converge to deliberate and craft global outreach strategies. By nurturing research initiatives and facilitating networking opportunities, the festival endeavors to foster a vibrant environment for diverse participants while recognizing and nurturing talent through stimulating GLOBE Research Projects.

01

Promote Environmental Awareness:

Increase understanding of critical environmental issues, particularly those related to wetlands and local ecosystems, among students, educators, and communities.

02

Encourage Student Research:

Foster scientific curiosity and research skills in students through hands-on projects that apply GLOBE protocols and contribute to real-world environmental data.

03

Facilitate Knowledge Sharing:

Provide a platform for students across the Asia-Pacific region to present their findings, exchange ideas, and learn from each other’s research efforts.

04

Highlight the Role of Wetlands:

Emphasize the ecological and economic importance of wetlands, including their role in water quality, biodiversity, and climate regulation.

05

Promote Community Engagement:

Encourage students to involve their local communities in understanding environmental challenges and implementing solutions, such as restoring wetlands and reducing pollution.

06

Strengthen Regional Collaboration:

Foster a sense of collaboration and shared responsibility among GLOBE countries in the Asia-Pacific region to address common environmental challenges.

07

Support GLOBE Goals:

Align student projects with GLOBE’s mission to enhance scientific understanding and environmental stewardship while expanding the use of GLOBE data.

08

Encourage Innovation:

Inspire creative and innovative approaches to environmental problems through interdisciplinary research and solutions.

09

Build Capacity:

Equip students with skills in scientific methodology, data collection, and analysis, preparing them for future academic and professional opportunities in environmental science.

10

Celebrate Achievements:

Recognize and celebrate the efforts and achievements of students, teachers, and schools in contributing to environmental science and conservation through their research.
